The international Chair of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Clare Short arrived Nigeria on a working visit with effect from 13th to 15th October, 2013. She was accompanied on the visit by a senior team from the EITI international Secretariat based in Oslo, Norway.
During the visit, the EITI Chair who was at various times a member of the British Parliament, Secretary of State for International Development for the British government held consultations with President Goodluck Jonathan on the implementation of EITI in Nigeria and the wider implications on oil, gas and mining sector reforms. The EITI international Chair also held talks with high-ranking government officials, development partners, the media and civil society as well as key players in Nigeria’s oil, gas and mining sectors.
The EITI Chair also addressed a Meeting of the Board and Management of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and observed a scheduled Meeting of FGN Inter – Ministerial Task Team on implementation of the findings and recommendations of the NEITI audit reports.
A State Dinner in honour of the visiting EITI international Chair and her delegation was organized by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim to round up the visit.
