A quarterly meeting of the NEITI National Stakeholders Working Group (NSWG) is expected to hold in Abuja, on August 11 at the NEITI Conference room.
The Chairman of the Board and Hon. Minister of Mines and Steel Development Dr. Kayode Fayemi, is expected to preside over the meeting. In preparation for the Board Meeting, various committees set up by the board on various thematic areas of NEITI’s mandate have commenced meetings to generate reports on what has been achieved so far for possible consideration at the Board Meeting.
The first amongst them is the Civil Society Steering Committee, set up by the board to provide a platform for Civil Society engagement in the NEITI process.
At the meeting held on the 1st of August 2017, in Abuja, the Civil Society reviewed its action plan developed in Kano to provide coordinated response to EITI recent validation report in Nigeria. This and other decisions taken at the Civil Society Steering Committee meeting will be tabled before the Board for consideration.
It could be recalled that the last meeting of the Board held in Kaduna in March, a 5 year Strategic plan was approved for the agency. The plan seeks to set policy direction for NEITI between 2017- 2021. The Executive Secretary believes that the strategic plan will provide bases for the annual work plan that will see NEITI translate its reports to results that will lead to visible impacts in the ongoing reforms in the industries.
