EITI BOARD MEETS IN BELGIUM

The 53rd International Board Meeting of the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is in progress in Brussels, Belgium.
The essence of the meeting is to review reports and assess the impacts of the implementation of the initiative as well as how those impacts are linked with EITI’s goal of enthroning transparency and accountability in the extractive sector of implementing countries and using good natural resource governance as a tool to address the rising global poverty, inequality and conflicts around the world.
The Chair of EITI International Board and former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Rt. Hon Helen Clark called on member countries to work with governments, companies, civil society, investors and international financial institutions to build a strong bond and ownership of the EITI process so as to institutionalize openness and fairness that can aid in achieving sustainability and prudent management of natural resources in their respective countries and jurisdictions.
The Executive Secretary of NEITI, Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, is one of the Board members and Heads of EITI Secretariats from 55 member countries around the World attending the meeting.
